X3: Albion Prelude (usually shortened to X3AP and trademarked as X3: Albion Prelude), is a space trading and combat simulator from German developer Egosoft and is the fifth game in their X series. An add-on to 2008's X3: Terran Conflict, X3: Albion Prelude features new content, functionality and improvements, including additional ships, stations, and sectors; a new plot line; war scenario sectors, and several stock exchanges. X3: Albion Prelude was announced on 8 December 2011 and released on Steam on 15 December 2011.

From what I gather (i.e. digging around on egosoft forums and exploring the game), abandoned ships in the galaxy are now randomized, so they're no longer in a predetermined position.
If you are having trouble with money, make your way to the Omicron Lyrae area (I hung around in Circle of Labor a lot, which is just north of OL) and start looting the various missiles that gets dropped during the battles between Terrans and Argons. You can easily make 1 mill in half an hour.
Just make sure you don't wander into a stray PSP or you'll be instantly vaporized.

I found it while mining for nividium. It was 25 km below the nividium 5 rock.

Since there are many different starts in X3:AP and most starts put you in a random sector within a part of a galaxy, its not possible to say what the 'closest place' is. But here are some guidelines that may help:
There are a few factors that goes into selling a ship:
To find the nearest shipyard at your starting location, just open up communications with random ships or stations and ask them which way to the nearest shipyard. Unless you have bad rep with that race, they'll usually direct you to them.
Now they were supposed professional gunsmiths and they did all the warnings as I do also but they did all kinds of bad thinks to an old Spanish imported single shot.410 shotgun. They used a shooting vise and stood back some distance pulling the trigger with a string. Can you shoot 410 out of 45long colt barrel. It never bulged the barrel nor did it open the full choke up which stayed at.387. They shot 444 Marlin in it, 30-30, several others and even a couple of 454 Casulls.
Finally, you can look up the location of a shipyard using the Universe Map. This is a X3:TC version but the X3:AP shipyards are in the same sectors as not much as changed between the games.

The Albion Prelude expansion to X3: Terran Conflict adds a healthy dose of war to the exploration and freeform space trading sim, along with 30 new ships and a dynamic stock exchange designed to liven up X3's commerce.
The tension between expansionist human colonists and the alien races that occupy the X universe has finally ignited, triggering a massive space war. X's hungry corporations are taking advantage of this to create new business, and there's plenty of room for a lone entrepreneurial trader to make millions.
That lone trader is one of a series of pre-made starting profiles that present differing angles on the conflict. You can sign up as a fighter in the army and play through a lengthy series of combat missions. You can become a well funded intelligence agent in charge of building fleets. You can become a space pirate desperately trying to scrape out a living in the face of pursuing law enforcement agents. In typical X style, from these jumping-off points, you can go anywhere and do anything you like.
This sounds much more glamorous than it actually is. The ambition of Albion Prelude is undermined by the tedium and plodding pace of every basic action. As a trader you'll be picking up goods from one part of the universe and selling them for a profit a few systems away. The new stock exchange function throws open much of the behind-the-scenes workings that drive X's economy, an excellent addition for those who want to play X as an absorbing galactic numbers game. But the act of docking, loading up and shifting your goods around to take advantage of a gap in the market takes so long that I often forgot what I was supposed to be doing by the time I reached my destination.
The space battles are much better, and act as a great showcase for the considerable graphical updates made by the expansion. Albion Prelude's combat ships aren't lithe enough to allow for proper dogfights, and there's not much depth to the action, but the spectacle and sheer volume of lasers involved makes the combat pilot a good way in for new players. The campaign objectives get repetitive quickly, however, and there's almost no guidance or tutorials to guide you round X's multi-layered interface.
When one battle went bad, I headed for the nearest stargate and deserted. “Sod this, I'll become a space pirate!” I thought. An hour later I found myself lost in the void, wading from system to system, still trying to find the first rung on the galactic trading ladder.
If you're willing to put up with the pace, Albion Prelude's simulation of a universe in turmoil provides the most dynamic and interesting sandbox yet presented by the X series. If interacting with it wasn't such a pain, Albion Prelude would be a tremendous achievement.

It's a fantastic time to be a space sim gamer, because there are many solid options out there to pour hours of time into. However, one gem still holds a dear place in my heart and demands attention to this very day: X3 by Egosoft. After a thousand hours spent in space, managing my own empire, taking out extra-terrestrial threats and being a pirate, I'm going to share why X3 is my all-time favorite space simulator.
X3 rolled out in 2005 as the sequel to X2. Titled 'Reunion,' Egosoft introduced enhanced graphics and other gameplay elements, which were then further advanced with the follow-up release of Terran Conflict (TC) in 2008. This is the first of the two big games, the second being the Albion Prelude (AP) expansion that hit in 2011. TC and AP combined added loads more ships, stations, and other features to peak the X series.
X3 AP (with TC underneath) allows you to do pretty much whatever you want. There's a storyline you can choose to follow, but as soon as you're loaded into space, there are so many opportunities just calling out to you. Initially, the learning curve of X3 is a steep journey to traverse along, and this isn't helped by the UI, but once familiarized with keyboard shortcuts and more, you'll be firing through menus.
You have gained recognition.
Starting off, you have the choice of several profiles. These don't really do much but dictate what ship(s) you start with, as well as cash and other minor factors. It's down to you whether you wish to peruse justice, set up an economic empire, wage war against all factions, manipulate the stock markets, command capital ships, or simply haul cargo to and from to make some credits. Come across an asteroid to scan and think it would be cool to set up a mining outpost? You can do just that.
Seriously, you can even command entire fleets of ships. It's all possible in X3 AP. It's an interesting mix of 4X, but in real-time, with first- and third-person cameras. The only downside to this game is the time investment; you'll need to find hours of free time in a day to make progress.
X3: Immersion
To be a solid and immersive space simulator, you need amazing graphics, top quality scores, and excellent, realistic gameplay. You should be able to park up somewhere in space and just watch the AI handle day-to-day business. Thankfully, you can tick all these boxes in X3 AP, even in 2017. Yes, we're not talking similar levels of quality to Elite: Dangerous and Star Citizen, but for a game that's essentially nine years-old, it looks really good.
There are numerous varieties of ships you can pilot, and you'll be buying and selling many of them throughout each playthrough. Models look good, as well as the stations and systems in general. Some will be vast spaces of absolutely nothing (looking at you Terran), while others will be cloudy nebulas. Moving through each sector makes for an interesting space-trip.
For music, well .. just give this a quick listen:
The score in the above video is Kingdom End, a track in X3: Albion Prelude. This is what you can expect from the soundtrack while drifting around in space. Sure, space shouldn't technically have sound effects from weapons and explosions, but it would be a boring experience if the developer adhered to this. Weapons sound different, depending on what you currently have in the loadout, and when you're done shooting at a foe, the explosions are satisfying.
And this is good news since you'll do a lot of shooting. But it's not all about combat. You'll have the ability to develop (or harm) relations with the various factions, not to mention dock at nearly all stations dotted around each sector (depending on how they view you), where you'll be able to purchase or sell wares. Travel between sectors is handled by jump gates, which you'll need to discover since all sectors are unmapped — aside from the one you spawn in.
X3: Expansive modding
After you've injected hundreds (if not thousands) of hours into the base game, Albion Prelude has full mod support. This means you can add new ships, features and make some core game mechanic alterations with awesome free content supported by the community. I usually roll with only a select few installed, mainly to affect the HUD, and a few other minor features.
The main mod I rely on is a game changer (quite literally) called Litcube's Universe. This mod is huge. It has a total of seven years of development history. It mainly targets late game when you may hit a wall where there's little else to do after you've amassed an armada of ships and have serious cash flow, but it does make serious changes throughout. Here's a list of highlights:
X3 Albion Prelude Free Ships
As I said, it's a huge mod, but since the two new opposing forces are rather aggressive it is recommended you play through the base game of Albnion Prelude first to get used to controls and gameplay.
Used to taking on the Universe with an M7? It's not enough anymore.
The Phanon Corporation is an interesting mechanic. This entity is essentially a company that expands as you progress through time. Imagine having another player in the game who is required to build up an empire and attempt to take over everything. They are far more aggressive than other factions, like Duke's. And the Omicron Channel Virus is a great opponent for more advanced fleets.
Should you be a fan of Freelancer, Star Citizen, No Man's Sky, Galactic Civilizations, Sins of a Solar Empire, and other popular space games, you'll want to check out X3. Better still, because these titles are old, you'll be able to pick them up at a fraction of the cost. The Terran War Pack, which includes both X3: Terran Conflict and the Albion Prelude expansion, is available for about $19.99.
